Corporate Social Responsibility Workshop

April 2018 – CLC World Resorts & Hotels was pleased to present at a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) workshop recently.

Promoted by the Deanship of the Faculty of Social and Labour Studies, Málaga University, the workshop provided students with an overview of CSR – how companies manage the impact of their activities on the environment, local communities, customers, shareholders and society in general. With around 20 students of different nationalities, the course was held in English.

CLC World provided real examples of corporate social responsibility including outlining some of CLC World’s activities from Zumba masterclasses to volunteering, bottle top collections to community work. Some students were surprised that CSR was more than just ‘presenting cheques’.

Providing the tools for job seekers

April 2018 – Cruz Roja Malaga (Red Cross Malaga) held a workshop for job seekers.

A CLC World HR representative attended and gave advice on how to present a CV and interview techniques.

Cruz Roja works to promote equal opportunities for those who are disadvantaged and help them access the employment market on equal footing.

Grupo Formative Epsilon visit Club La Costa World, Spain

January 2018 – Students studying Restaurant Service, as part of the Hotel Management & Tourism course at Grupo Formative Epsilon, visited our Club La Costa World resort in Mijas for a taste of how we run our restaurants.

They enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Safari restaurant and listened to talks from the Commercial Manager, Restaurant Supervisor and Chef, gaining insight into how theory is put into practice in a busy resort restaurant.

For the students, there was the added incentive to impress, as there was the possibility of work experience on resort.

Áine Leahy, Assistant Commercial Manager, said “It’s great to have new talent on board and we are happy to participate in preparing people for the workplace.”

Working with Diversity

January 2018 – Club La Costa World staff attended a course on Functional Diversity.

The purpose of the course was to apprise staff of:

  • The definition of accessible tourism
  • The profile of people with functional diversity
  • The terminology advocated by their own groups
  • The daily difficulties faced by people with functional diversity: organisational, social and physical barriers.

As one of the attendees said, “It wasn’t only theory but practice as well. We got to see the holiday experience from the point of a view of a person with, for example, physical restrictions.

In one scenario, we wore a blindfold and tried to move successfully around an apartment with just verbal directions. It is good to have this understanding, not just for work but for life in general.”

At CLC World we continue to promote equality and diversity in the workplace and to create an atmosphere of understanding amongst our staff, as ever working towards achieving our mission of delivering “memorable holiday experiences serviced to standards that consistently exceed customer expectations”.

Opening doors to employment

December 2017 – Fundación Adecco visited CLC World’s HR department on the Costa del Sol, with a number of candidates, to discuss future employment opportunities within the company.

Fundación Adecco aims to increase employment take-up for example amongst groups such as victims of domestic abuse, people with disabilities, immigrants and the long-term unemployed.

Following introductions, an overview of the company and how the recruitment process works, Ricardo Lopez Jimena, Head of Reception, took them all on a tour of Santa Cruz Suites. Taking in the gardens, Safari restaurant, Signature Suites and Housekeeping’s stores, it was a good insight into the service side of the business.

The candidates showed keen interest in the resort and “talked with pride about what they can do when given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.” Ricardo found the tour very fruitful and on a personal level was pleased to have had the chance to be their guide. When leaving, one of the candidates, touchingly said “we are family.”

Virginia de Haro Toro, from Adecco, thanked CLC World for the opportunity saying, “it was a productive day and the tour was enriching for them and us.”

CLC World works with numerous organisations – town halls, agencies, universities and educational institutions – to provide equal and fair access to employment opportunities.

Austrian interns at Duchally

October 2017 – Two young Austrians have been learning the ropes of the hospitality industry at CLC Duchally Country Estate in Scotland.

The teenagers, aged 17, were given hands-on experience during nearly three months at the Perthshire venue. The girls are from Zell am See in the Austrian state of Salzburg, which is also home to CLC Alpine Centre.

They said: “We love Scotland and the working environment is so friendly. It’s good to go and explore, it’s been a great adventure.”

They experienced every aspect of the working day in a busy hotel and resort from getting to grips with life in the kitchen to understanding how front-of-house duties are handled.
