The Festung Hohensalzburg Castle

Mirabell Palace – Schloss Mirabell

Originally known as ‘Altenau’, the Mirabell Palace was constructed by Wolf Dietrichs for Salome Alt in 1606. Major points of interest include the Engelsstiege (Angels’ Steps) by Raphael Donner, which lead to the Marmorsaal (Marble hall), celebrated as the most beautiful wedding hall of Central Europe. Mirabell’s formal gardens have statues representing characters from Greek mythology, as well as the “Zwergelgarten” (Garden of Dwarfs), the Baroque Museum and the Nature Theatre.

Salzburg Fortress Concerts – Salzburger Festungskonzerte

More than 300 concerts per year make the Salzburger Festungskonzerte one of the longest runs of chamber music concerts in the world.

Residence Gallery – Residenzgalerie

Home to masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Brueghel and many others, the Residence Gallery attracts art-lovers from around the world.

Famous Italian, Austrian and French masters give visitors an insight into the Baroque world of extravagant style, architecture, art and music. Explore the 15 magnificent rooms on the second floor of the former Archbishop’s residence and paintings by Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller, Friedrich Amerling and Anton Romako.

The World of Marionettes – Welt der Marionetten

Get up close and personal with historical marionettes from the world-famous Salzburg Marionette Theatre. Exhibits include Papageno and Papagena from Mozart’s ‘Zauberflote’ (Magic Flute) and other fascinating examples from around the world.

Located in the cellars of the stunning Hohensalzburg Fortress, this unique museum allows visitors to try out the marionettes and pull the strings for themselves.
