MOUNT TEIDE NATIONAL PARK

One of the great natural wonders of the world, Mount Teide National Park is located less than a 60-minute drive from our CLC Monterey resort and makes for a fascinating day trip.

A unique geological treasure, with volcanoes, craters and lava flows, forms an impressive array of shapes and colours and lunar-like landscapes. Mount Teide is the highest point in Spain and the third highest volcano in the world, soaring 3,718 metres above sea level.

The surrounding areas make up the National Park which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and is one of the most visited parks of its kind in the world.

From your accommodation near Mount Teide on the sun drenched south coast of the island, head inland to Vilaflor, which is the highest village in Tenerife and boasts some of the most breath-taking scenery in the Canary Islands. Green, dramatic landscapes surround the National Park which often has a cover of snow in winter. Even in the summer, take some appropriately warm clothing as it can become chilly at altitude.

Things to do at Mount Teide

The National Park consists of an enormous unspoilt wilderness with many hiking trails and routes to explore through rock formations left over by lava-flows and fields of wild flowers and forests. The park is home to hundreds of different species of trees, flowers, insects and birds.

Mount Teide National Park is a must-see during your holiday in Tenerife and from CLC World’s convenient south location, the park is under an hour away.

Whether you enjoy a spot of bird-watching or you prefer something more active, a wide choice of walks, hikes and mountain biking trails are available. If you want to make the most of the stunning views, take the Teide Cable Car to an altitude of 3,555m.

If you are determined to reach the summit, take the Telesforo Bravo trail to the peak of Teide at 3,718m but remember you will need to apply for a special free permit, issued by the administration of Teide National Park, a couple of months in advance.

The visitor centre will assist you with maps and tell you the best hiking trails of the day, and you can also reserve a place in the daily organised hiking tour.
