Providing respite for carers
Last year, CLC World Resorts & Holidays provided space at one of our resorts to give unpaid carers supported by Carers Trust a well-deserved break from their daily routine of looking after family members or friends.
The weekend proved such a success that CLC World linked up with Carers Trust’s local partner, Carers Support Centre Bristol and South Gloucestershire, to provide a similar weekend in February to those who need it most. Families who don´t often get the opportunity to spend time together away in a relaxed environment were invited to spend a weekend at CLC Hustyns in Cornwall.
The guests had full use of the 100-acre Hustyns site and all the amenities that can be found on the resort including the sauna, steam room, a fully-equipped gym, swimming pool… even a crazy golf course!
Susan Olivier, whose family were one of those that spent the weekend in the Cornish countryside, said she and her family,
“really enjoyed it, we also really needed it. The resort was better than we were expecting, very nice, calm and not too busy. It was a beautiful area.”
Susan added that they were appreciative of the chance to spend some quality downtime together, stating it was, “Really necessary and gratefully received because at home we have carer [workers] in a lot of the time so we never really get to relax or switch off”.
“We really enjoyed it, we also really needed it. The resort was better than we were expecting, very nice, calm and not too busy. It was a beautiful area.”
Those providing more than 50 hours of care per week are twice as likely to report ill-health as those not providing care. By giving carers the opportunity to go on a luxury holiday weekend, CLC World Charity Holidays was able to make all the difference to carers and their families.
Carers Trust continues to provide vital help and assistance to families who are both in need of – and deserving of – their support.
Susan was quick to add that the “information they [Carers Trust] pass on is usually very helpful”
And having the organisation means she has “a lifeline for information and knowing that advice is a phone call away if I need it.”
The weekend held earlier this year was successful not only in providing a getaway for these families but, also to raise awareness for all the great work Carers Trust do in the local community.
