Charity cheque handover to DownTenerife
The fruits of fund raising fun at CLC World’s Paradise resort in Tenerife have now been handed over to their chosen charities. Pictured from left to right are Leonie Lindwedel from CLC Paradise, three young pupils at DownTenerife and CLC colleague Emma Barnes as a cheque for 960 euros was handed over to support the work of the organisation.
And a further 360 euros has been presented to Down Syndrome International to support their Reach Out teaching programme in developing countries which provides training and support to professionals, organisations and people with Down syndrome.
The grand total was raised after staff at CLC Paradise held fun events to raise money, and they were supported in their endeavours by colleagues at CLC Sunningdale and CLC Monterey who sold raffle tickets to boost funds.
DownTenerife is based in La Laguna, Tenerife and Leonie and Emma had a lovely time meeting staff and pupils at the centre, which includes a physio room for infants, a workshop for arts and crafts, a teaching kitchen and a minimarket.
At the workshop the young people don’t only develop physical skills – they are able to make and then sell their own handmade books, key rings, photo albums and recipe books and all profits are used to buy more materials for the workshop.
DownTenerife’s mission is to protect the dignity of people with Down syndrome and to develop and promote all kinds of activities designed to promote their independence and improve their quality of life.
Leonie said: “All of us at Paradise, Sunningdale and Monterey had a great time with the fund raising and it was a real pleasure to meet so many people who are involved with DownTenerife and some of the many young people who benefit from its work. We look forward to keeping in touch.”
