Top Holiday Destinations 2019
It’s the time of year when travel lists hit our inboxes and for 2019 there’s a broad range of destinations, experiences and trends highlighted including responsible tourism, wellness travel, the tailor-made package and seeking the knowledge and reassurance of travel experts.
This is where CLC World Travel comes in; our travel experts are on hand to help you book your holiday whether that’s a cruise around the Mediterranean or your very own tailor-made holiday. Based on that extensive knowledge, we’ve come up with our own Top Holiday Destinations.
Here’s where we think you should holiday in 2019…
Portugal’s island in the Mediterranean, Madeira’s volcanic lands offer wonderful flora and fauna, tropical vegetation and activities for every type of holiday-maker. The island’s capital, Funchal, is one of Europe’s cleanest and with its narrow winding streets it is typically Portuguese in style and feeling. And like its neighbours, the Canary Islands, Madeira boasts year-round warm weather.
Italy is on just about everybody’s ‘holiday bucket list’ and it’s no wonder with its rich history, gastronomy and enchanting landscapes. Piedmont in the north has often been overlooked but with its own Lake District, the city of Turin, the Alps rising behind it and vineyards producing some of Italy’s finest wines – Barolo and Barbaresco to name but two – it’s time for this Italian region to be recognised for all it has to offer.
From the streets of Buenos Aires with its tango and milonga dances to the sparsely populated steppes of Patagonia edged by the Andes, Argentina is a seduction of the senses. Taste the mate with your friends, explore the cities of Córdoba, Mendoza and Salta as well as Buenos Aires and head off gaucho style into the grasslands. From glaciers to waterfalls you can marvel at nature and its wildlife including whales and flamingos.
The Romantics wrote about the solitude offered by the beautiful and wild Highlands landscape with its mountains, lochs, bluebell woods and glens dotted with crumbling forts, monastic cells and abandoned crofts. Challenge yourselves with the West Highland Way or Ben Nevis and replenish with delightful fresh food from venison to seafood, topped off with a malt whisky.
CLC Duchally Country Estate, at Auchterarder is the perfect place to start or end your Highlands holiday. Set in 27 acres of parkland with friendly red squirrels and wildlife, the lodges and hotel offer comfortable accommodation, a spa and award-winning restaurant.
Japan is one of 2019’s hot ticket destinations and not just because of the Rugby Union World Cup that will be held on its shores during September and October. A Pacific island nation with mountainous national parks, dense cities, thousands of shrines and bullet trains, it’s a hospitable and intriguing country. Famed for the beauty of its cherry blossom in the spring, the autumn months are also a riot of colour.
Peru & the Galapagos
A country and a set of islands that combined will give you the most unique holiday experience ever. The world’s ‘living laboratory’ as Darwin called the Galapagos, is home to species you will not see anywhere else. Couple that with Peru and its experiences from Machu Picchu to the Nazca Lines in Ica and the cities of Lima and Madre de Dios and you’ll have the holiday of a lifetime.
The Turkish Riviera
Also known as the Turquoise Coast, with its white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, the Turkish Riviera combines history, culture and holiday resorts to perfection. Walk the Lycian Way, visit the impressive ruins of Ephesus, the thermal waters of Pamukkale or dive a modern plane wreck off the coast at Kusadasi.
CLC Kusadasi Golf & Spa is a sunny oasis close to the sea. In the mountains above the town of Kusadasi you can enjoy the 18-hole golf course, relax by one of its numerous pools as well as enjoy the sights of ancient Turkey.
The largest and most diverse of Australia’s states, Western Australia has miles of coastline where brightly coloured fish and dolphins could become your swim partners. The capital Perth is abuzz with bars, restaurants, shopping and cultural experiences while on its doorstep are the Swan Valley wineries. In the north-west Kimberley region of the state are The Bradshaws, aboriginal cave art. Their age has not been verified but they are a prime example of indigenous art.
Of course, if you’re travelling all that way it would be the perfect chance to pull together a tailor-made package and combine Tasmania and the Red Centre into an Australian Adventure.
South Africa & Botswana
Gorgeous beaches, national parks with exotic wildlife, lush winelands, forest and lagoons – the lands of South Africa are rich and diverse. Whether you visit buzzing Durban on the east coast, Cape Town in the south with Table Mountain as its backdrop or the capital Johannesburg with its museums, South Africa is a dream holiday. Team it with Botswana to the north, famed for its safaris, and Africa will be in your dreams forever more.
Beautiful but care-worn, Cuba is waiting to welcome you to her white sand shores. Trapped in a time warp, now is the time to visit the archipelago and take in the dilapidated but stylish colonial architecture, the colourful cars, tobacco fields and its revolutionary folklore. With cruises to Cuba at very affordable prices, make the most of the opportunity to experience a magical place and enjoy value for money.
George Bernard Shaw said, “If you want to see heaven on earth, come to Dubrovnik”. He may well have said that for all of Croatia, where blue, green and white dominate from the national parks at Plitvice to the coastal city of Split with its Roman palace ruins and Zadar on the Dalmatian coast, home to the world’s smallest cathedral. Cruise the coastline or head inland, Croatia has a cultural heritage that encompasses more than just museums and cathedrals.
