Sightseeing in Marbella
As you’ll see from the photos CLC World is tagged in on Instagram, or the testimonials on our CLC World reviews page, the friendly staff, quality of accommodation and facilities on-resort are what keep visitors returning to our Costa del Sol resorts year after year. But, as perfect as it is for a relaxing luxury break, it would be a real shame to overlook what vibrant towns like Marbella have to offer in terms of sightseeing and attractions, especially for those days when you’d like to do a little more than lounging by one of the 21 pools at our resorts on the Costa del Sol. Here are our top suggestions for sightseeing in Marbella:
Visit the Marbella Old Quarter
Like many Spanish cities, Marbella has a beautiful old town that’s just crying out to be explored. Quaint and calm, its many pedestrian streets are perfect for a relaxed afternoon of strolling and shopping followed by delicious freshly-cooked churros and coffee in the sunshine. Be sure to pay a visit to the bustling Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Square) in the centre of the old town, which is perfect for grabbing a bite to eat and is home to the striking architecture of the Ayuntamiento, or City Hall.
Take a Hike up La Concha
This is a little more than an excursion, but trust us – it’s worth it. Not for the faint-hearted, climbing the 1200m to the summit of La Concha takes a bit of preparation (our must-have checklist is: a hat, plenty of water, walking boots and suncream) and can take a good few hours from the starting point of Juanar, only 25 minutes from the centre of Marbella. When you reach the top, however, all your hard work will be rewarded with what is without doubt one of the most sensational views you will set eyes on – on clear days you can see all the way across to the Rock of Gibraltar and even North Africa.
It’s best to avoid the midday heat for this climb, so we recommend setting off as early in the morning as you can manage (which also means you can reward yourself with a nice lunch when you’re finished).
Soak up some Culture at the Libertad Couso Art Gallery
Aside from checking out the magnificent churches dotted around the city, if you’re looking to inject some culture into your getaway to CLC World Costa del Sol then the Libertad Couso Art Gallery is well worth a visit. It features a fascinating variety of work from both international and local artists including some really exciting sculpture which will delight art fans of all ages.
Take a Tour of a Vineyard
The Costa del Sol is well known for its vineyards and wineries and we recommend a visit to Vina & Bodega Remsamen in the hills behind Marbella. This small but stunning family-run winery boasts panoramic views and the hosts are renowned for offering a friendly and engaging tour detailing the history of the vineyard and how their wine is made. Of course, the visit is made complete by tasting its superb white and red wines.
