Even the Oxford English Dictionary has struggled to find a single word to sum up 2020 but one we certainly think fits the bill and was used frequently is “unprecedented”.
In this unprecedented year, there are positive outcomes that we can look back on with a sense of pride. Here’s a quick review of CLC World’s 2020 achievements.

In February, we were proud to be named winners of The Peer Awards’ ‘Collaborating with Charities’ award in recognition of the outstanding work by CLC World Charity Holidays with UK organisations.
Held in Fortnum and Mason’s Drawing Room, London, the ceremony celebrated corporations’ contributions to society. CLC World were nominated finalists in two Corporate Responsibility categories: Collaborating with Charities (CLC World Charity Holidays) and Giving to the Community (Fundación CLC World).
For both our entries to make it as finalists was a wonderful achievement in itself. PepsiCo who, with their global reach and 100million+ meals delivered to low-income families was a formidable opponent, pipped Fundación CLC World to the post in their category.

TripAdvisor awarded 2020 Traveller’s Choice Awards (formerly Certificate of Excellence) to 10 CLC World resorts and two of our resort restaurants.
“We’re proud of the effort all our team members have put in to making this possible – the dedication, passion, hard work, and of course friendly smiles, that make all our guests feel welcome and have the best of holidays,” said Graham Wilding, Managing Director, Resorts & Hotels Division.
“Also, a big thank you to our guests who took the time to post their reviews, it wouldn’t be possible without you,” he commented.
Our Traveller’s Choice resorts and restaurants are: Apollonium Spa & Beach, Turkey; Club La Costa World, Spain; Duchally Country Estate, Scotland; Encantada, USA; Kusadasi Golf & Spa, Turkey; Monterey, Tenerife; Paradise, Tenerife; Regal Oaks, USA; San Diego Suites, Spain; Sunningdale Village, Tenerife; Safari restaurant, Spain; Zacary’s at Sunningdale Village, Tenerife.

During 2020, we added new UK Club Resorts to our portfolio in order that our Members have an expanded choice when holidaying in their home country.
With new resorts in Surrey, County Durham and the Cotswolds in addition to our existing Club Resorts, plus CLC World’s Trenython Manor, Duchally Country Estate and Canaltime offerings, we have a variety of holiday options.
For 2021, the arrival of five new Canaltime barges will increase access to this popular holiday experience. Named by our members via a competition, we cannot wait to see them take to the water.

For 36 years, CLC World has been recognised for its exacting standards, and as its resorts reopened in July after enforced lockdowns, we launched Safe Hands initiative.
In consultation with local, national and international health authorities, we designed Safe Hands to provide the highest possible protection levels for everyone. As Group Managing Director, Patrick Ingram, stated: “We want to reassure everyone who walks through our doors that our commitment to their health and safety is our top priority. Furthermore, we want the CLC World team to understand that their health is safeguarded alongside that of our guests.”

It was a celebratory moment as we handed over the keys to Santa Barbara Heights, Costa del Sol to the first residents.
The stylish apartments, with individual plunge pools, are set in private landscaped grounds with infinity, kids and lap pools, looked fabulous under a summer sky.

Throughout the year, we have continued to help others– retaining links with our partnered charities and assisting our local communities in a variety of ways.
With one of the strictest lockdowns in the world, Spanish residents were confined to their homes for months. When time allowed, CLC World opened the resort doors to staff so they could enjoy space both indoors and outside, particularly important for those with children.
We also donated computers for home schooling, consumables to food banks, raised funds for Cystic Fibrosis Holiday Fund through a quiz, donated to cancer charities during October and, as restrictions lifted, hosted children who had participated in the Mijas Libraries campaign.

CLC Duchally Country Estate’s Gatehouse Gin distillery was put to alternative use at the height of the pandemic. Our Head of Distilling, Tony Reeman-Clarke, decided we should make our own sanitiser to aid in the battle against Covid. Gatehouse Hand Sanitiser consists of alcohol, a dash of our own gin for scent and aloe vera for consistency and health properties.
All Duchally staff receive the sanitiser free of charge. Feedback has been positive with people loving the scent and its feel, using it liberally thereby ensuring they and our guests have added protection from the virus.
Duchally is now selling the Gatehouse Hand Sanitiser on resort. Donations from the proceeds go to Carers Trust.
