2019 is a year of noteworthy anniversaries for CLC World: celebrating 35 years of delivering memorable holiday experiences to our Members and 20 years of our charity – Fundación CLC World.
We’re thrilled to have reached such a marvellous milestone. Throughout the 35 years, there have been worldwide recessions and property booms, but CLC World’s ability to navigate these events is testament to our determination to succeed.
We would like to take you on a trip down memory lane, from our beginnings way back in 1984 when we were a single resort on the Costa del Sol, through to 2019 and the construction of our exclusive development, Santa Barbara Heights. This journey and growth means that CLC World is now Europe’s leading independent resort developer and operator.
In the beginning…
CLC World founder, Roy Peires, purchased his first resort, Las Farolas, on the Costa del Sol in 1984. Offering a fixed week timeshare, Peires developed the concept, expanding rapidly in the 1980s and 90s. 35 years on, CLC World now offers 300,000+ holidays every year to Members and marketing clients.
Mr & Mrs Robson have been Members since 1985, when they won a week’s holiday for life at our second resort, CLC Marina del Sol. They loved it so much, they bought a second week in their favourite apartment. They’ve experienced the many changes that have taken place, but one thing has remained constant – great customer service. “Every time we open the front door we feel like we are at home. The staff on the resort are so very friendly and we are always made to feel like we belong.”
New Millenium, New Horizons
While the focus remained very much on expanding the resorts on the Costa del Sol during the first 15 years, the mainstay of the British tourism market at the time, with the new millennium came new horizons for CLC World.
Having acquired Duchally Country Estate in Scotland, just a stone’s throw from the famous Gleneagle Golf Course, in 2000 we developed 55 luxurious lodges in the grounds. Maintaining the aesthetic elegance of the estate was crucial and the sympathetic design of the lodges, with their interior fixtures and fittings that shout understated Scottish comfort and luxury, has enjoyed continuing success.
“We joined CLC World recently following a referral by a friend, but we had visited before. The location and surroundings are simply out of this world.” Mr Harib
From the Highlands to Islands
Hot on the heels of our Scottish Highlands resort, CLC World opened its first resort on the Canary Island of Tenerife – CLC Sunningdale Village – in 2001. Three further Tenerife resorts quickly followed, CLC Paradise, CLC Monterey and CLC Monterey Royale, all of which have proved incredibly popular with our Members over the years; little wonder as the island has a diverse landscape, unparalleled tourist infrastructure and a fabulous year-round climate.
“We’ve been visiting CLC Paradise for over 10 years and it just feels like home when we arrive.” Mrs M
Variety is the Spice of Life
To remain at the top of your game requires the ability to adapt to external forces, whether that’s the economic climate or consumer trends.
CLC World prides itself on always seeking new pastures and offering its Members variety when it comes to destinations and holiday experiences.
That’s just what CLC World did in 2007 with the launch of their Yacht Club. Initially sailing around the Mediterranean during the summer season, the Yacht Club now also offers winter sailing in the British Virgin Islands, Caribbean. There is no better way to appreciate some of the most beautiful places on earth than cruising crystal clear waters on-board a luxury 60ft catamaran – and the popularity of the Yacht Club will vouch for that.
“Being waited upon while gazing at incredible views, eating home-made and freshly cooked, very tasty meals – each presented in such a way as to make them special – was fantastic and certainly made us feel thoroughly pampered. The attention to detail was amazing.” Mr & Mrs Popoff Possolo
CLC Alpine Centre is another fine example, offering Members a winter sports location in one of Europe’s most beautifully compact countries, Austria. A spa, indoor pool and access to some of the best skiing in Europe makes it a winter wonderland that sheds its white mantle in spring and offers up great hiking, biking and scintillating culture in nearby Salzburg.
With travel to far-flung destinations becoming more accessible, holiday-makers have been spreading their wings and searching for destinations further afield. Popular choices outside of Europe are Turkey and the USA, which of course meant that CLC World had to be there.
Four resorts opened in just 6 years under the CLC World banner – CLC Apollonium Spa & Beach (Turkey), CLC Kusadasi Golf & Spa (Turkey), CLC Encantada (USA) and CLC Regal Oaks (USA), making CLC World’s presence truly global.
With such diverse destinations on offer, the type of holiday options is impressive. Our portfolio even includes our very first residential golf resort, CLC Kusadasi Golf & Spa where our members can take to the fairways and greens of a challenging 18-hole golf course.
Developing for our Members
Although CLC World started out as a holiday timeshare business, it soon became apparent that Members loved our resort accommodation so much they wanted to own one of our properties outright.
So, CLC World expanded into 100% ownership with CLC Estates, a full-service estate agency, which offers resale properties from apartments and lodges to townhouses with excellent rental history. CLC Estates also promotes and sells CLC World’s purpose-built resort-based developments.
Malibu Mansions on the Costa del Sol was the first of such developments in our ever-popular California Beach branded resort. Mr & Mrs Thomas, who were one of the first 2,000 CLC World Members, testify: “We bought at Malibu Mansions partly as investment and partly to encourage family to come on holiday with us – with the leaseback arrangement we have peace of mind as we know the level of service is exceptional.”
Two resorts in Orlando, USA – CLC Encantada and CLC Regal Oaks – followed in 2010 and 2015; their proximity to Disney World® proving a big draw for real estate purchasers. As Turkey’s popularity as a holiday destination grew, CLC World worked with well-known hotel brand Ramada on a new development in Kusadasi on the Aegean coast.
With our most recent real estate development, CLC World has pulled out all the style stops. An exclusive urbanisation of just 50 contemporary apartments on the Costa del Sol, Santa Barbara Heights boasts expansive terraces with private plunge pools all set within beautifully landscaped grounds. Scheduled for completion at the end of 2019, Santa Barbara Heights has set the bar high for its competitors.
More than a holiday
It’s not just properties, resorts and hotels that CLC World has developed; understanding our Members’ holiday needs and desires led to the creation of CLC World Travel in 1999 and CLC Signature in 2016.
CLC Signature raised the ceiling of our premier brand apartments, with design excellence and enhanced service. A striking ensemble of luxury, contemporary accommodation, it can only be found in our top-of-the-range resorts.
With a dedicated Concierge team and enhanced service features, CLC Signature is CLC World’s crème de le crème. Signature Members Phil and Helen Harris commented on a recent visit: “We were attracted by the standard and quality of CLC World and particularly Signature. It really does feel like home from home.”
A travel agent exclusively for our Members, CLC World Travel has been helping them make the most of their Points with fabulous offers from cruises to short breaks, or simply booking the best flights for their CLC World holiday.
As experts in their field, the CLC World Travel team are also on hand to help Members create tailor-made holidays, including those once-in-a-lifetime round the world trips that make others green with envy.
“We decided we wanted a trip around the world. We weren’t sure how to go about it, so we went to CLC World Travel. Nothing was impossible. Now we have a phenomenal 14-week trip of a lifetime to look forward to.” Brenda & Val
Putting Smiles on Faces
From the very beginning, CLC World has been aware of the need to support the communities in which it works, whether that is through local employment or the social responsibility work.
To formalise this approach, in 1999 our registered charity Fundación CLC World was founded. Its aim is to help those in need, whether through recognised charities or as individuals, on the Costa del Sol and Tenerife.
Actor and film director, Antonio Banderas, who hails from Malaga, said recently: “I would like to thank everyone at Fundación CLC World for their collaboration over the last 20 years on the Costa del Sol and for the years to come.”
From everyone at CLC World, we’d like to thank our Members for their unswerving loyalty over the years – we couldn’t do it without you – and our business partners for helping us achieve and maintain our goal: To deliver memorable holiday experiences serviced to standards that consistently exceed customer expectations.
Here’s to the next 35 years!
