CLC World Blog

One of the top travel trends for 2017 is adventure holidays. Not the “hard adventure” of past years such as an ascent of Kilimanjaro but the gentler activities and experiences like safaris, hiking, cycling and sailing.
And it’s not just men looking for adventure, in fact women are leading the way in seeking a little excitement on their travels, while families and small groups of friends are also taking part in active holidays around the world.
If you want to join those seeking adventure, we know just the places to visit for your activity holidays, taking advantage of the natural (and occasionally not so natural) surroundings and getting the pulse quickening ever so slightly!

Wild Rides

Whether it’s the waves on Cocoa Beach or the highly rated Manta rollercoaster at Sea World®, you can get your thrills in Orlando, Florida.
After watching the real thing in the aquarium before boarding the ride, the Manta soars and dives like a ray. It’s exhilaration all the way!
At Cocoa Beach, the start of “Surf Coast”, you can catch the waves and test out your board skills. With dependable waves all year round, this is a great place for beginners and the more experienced. Great for all ages.
Stay at CLC Regal Oaks for great proximity to the theme parks (less than 10 miles to Sea World®) and let your family activity holiday begin!

Mountain-biking in the Austrian Alps

With a 230km mountain bike trail network, Zell-am-See – Kaprun is the ideal location for exploring Salzburgerland.
From spring to autumn, the lakeside and mountains are yours to explore with a variety of bike parks, tours and trails.
Some of the best mountain-biking in the areas is available on the doorstep of CLC Alpine Centre. So take advantage of the fresh alpine air and hit the slopes without the need for skis.

Riding high

7.7km long and up to 105 metres high, El Caminito del Rey will test the mettle of anyone, even those with a head for heights. Originally opened in 1921 by King Alfonso XIII, the dizzy heights offer spectacular views of the Gaitanes Gorge and the flora and fauna of this nature spot – an activity with a real sense of adventure. Just don’t look down!
Another, and less elevated, way to enjoy the Andalucían countryside is on horseback. Hack through the olive groves and pine forests of the Mijas hills on this traditional mode of transport. A fantastic family activity.
The resorts at CLC Club La Costa World make both adventure holiday ideas easily accessible.

Scottish Safaris

While watching the sunrise over the Serengeti from a hot-air balloon is one way to have a wonderful adventure holiday experience, there are also fabulous safari adventureholidays to be had in the UK.
The Highlands of Scotland offer a variety of Safari trips to suit you. Whether it’s a Land Rover or 6WD ‘Pinz’ drive into the mountains, an exploration of Loch Tay by boat or biking the incredible landscapes, there’s a family adventure holiday waiting for you.
From your base at CLC Duchally Country Estate, you can take part in a Highland safari and revel in the natural beauty of Scotland.

Check out the Underwater World

The clear blue waters of the Aegean are an ideal place to scuba dive or snorkel. Whether you’re a novice or experienced diver, Kusadasi has the waters and schools to bring your adventure to life. The recent deliberate sinking of an Airbus off the Kusadasi coast is designed to promote artificial reef diving – an activity ideal for the experienced diver.
As far as activity holidays go, this is a wonderful opportunity and with CLC Kusadasi Golf & Spa within easy reach, your activities need not be limited to the sea.

Sail the Seas

Another adventure holiday idea is to set sail and head off into the sunset. Club La Costa Yacht Club spends the summer exploring the most beautiful spots of the Mediterranean Sea. And the action doesn’t stop there. When the captain drops anchor, there’s a host of other activities to enjoy: snorkelling, kayaking, wakeboarding and jet skiing.
The perfect adventure holidays are there for the taking – combining paradise with a little action.

Walk the Path

For a series of hikes or an epic trek, the South West Coast Path offers a great route for an active holiday.
You can add a cultural element to your activity holiday with walks designed to incorporate the heritage and culture of England’s peninsular – from film and book locations to natural and man-made monuments. Lonely Planet Great Adventures Guide (2012) described it as “walking at its most diverse, most spectacular and most delicious”.
Sample the beauty of the South West with a walk from Mevagissey to Par where culinary delights and sophisticated elegance are available at CLC Trenython Manor. Once rested and refuelled you can continue your adventure exploring the Cornish Riviera and beyond.
