Mezze

No trip to Turkey is complete without ordering mezze! A choice of hot and cold dishes – salads, fish, dips, meat and mini-casseroles, accompanied by delicious Turkish flat breads and home-made sauces.

Manti

These spicy beef or lamb-stuffed miniature raviolis are a big hit in restaurants and households throughout the country. Boiled or fried, these little morsels of scrumptiousness are made with mincemeat, and served with a fresh herb-inspired tomato sauce with garlic, red pepper flakes and yogurt – delicious for lunch or dinner!

Lahmacun

Italians have pizza and the Turks have Lahmacun, which can be wrapped or pulled apart to eat. Flat, crispy and topped with minced lamb, onions, garlic, peppers, mincemeat and ripe tomatoes.

This delicious dish is served with lemon wedges or a Piyaz salad, with sliced red onion, tomatoes, parsley and sumac, a dried red spice with a tangy, lemon flavour that brings a splash of colour to any dish.

Shakshouka

If you like a bit of spice on your eggs, Shakshouka makes for a hearty breakfast or lunch! Eggs are poached in a sauce of tomatoes, olive oil, peppers, onion and garlic, spiced with cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper and nutmeg.

Served with fresh bread to dip into the sauce, this traditional take on poached eggs is popular throughout the Middle East.

Doner Kebab

Who doesn’t love a doner kebab? The traditional version is the essential Turkish food, with tender meat, salad, spices and garlic yoghurt packed inside a pita bread.

Chicken, lamb or beef is cooked on a vertical rotisserie and shaved with a sharp knife. Also great with hummus or traditional Turkish dips, the doner meat makes a great sub or sandwich any time of the day or night!
