Spain remains top holiday hotspot

British holidaymakers once again made Spain the number one holiday destination of 2012 according to research published by fight search engine Skyscanner.

Despite an increase in VAT and prices the travel trend report highlighted that Spain was the most popular with sunseekers during the summer months ahead of the United Kingdom in second and the United States in third.

The top ten destinations of 2012 also included Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Turkey.

Skyscanner’s Sam Poullain said: “Despite the economic gloom, 2012 has been a very busy year for travel.

“Spain has continued to dominate this year as sun destinations have proven popular in light of the washout weather in the UK.”

Club La Costa World began life here on the Costa del Sol 28 years ago and now has a number of mixed use resorts here in mainland Spain.
