Head to the beach for a magical party
<<< Back to blogs
Marina del Sol’s beach-facing resort is the perfect place to be to enjoy the magical Noche de San Juan when thousands head to the beach to enjoy one of the liveliest celebrations of the year.
This special night, the Night of St John, takes place on Saturday June 23rd, and both young and old camp out all night, warmed by the blaze of bonfires and thrilling to spectacular firework displays. This is Andalucia, and Andalucians love to party, so there is plenty of eating, drinking and dancing too.
The great thing is that everyone is welcome to celebrate what was once a Pagan event to mark the official start of summer but which now also commemorates the birth of St John the Baptist. Follow the ancient tradition and jump over a bonfire three times and your body and soul will be purified and all your problems will be burned away! And if that looks too intimidating, join the revellers as they rush into the sea at midnight to banish bad spirits. The folk washing their feet and faces three times believe they will be granted three wishes and will enjoy a happy year.
So head across the road and be prepared to join the locals in one of the most exciting and memorable celebrations and create a fantastic holiday memory.
