Don’t stop the carnival!

On the Costa del Sol there’s so much to do and see the fun never stops… and from February 2-10 the loud, proud and colourful Malaga carnival will be happening.
Malaga city is easily reached from CLC World’s Costa del Sol resorts, and is worth a visit at any time of year but especially so during religious festivities and fiestas such as this one.
Since 1980 when carnival returned after decades of Franco prohibition, the local Malgueños have revived the old music and created ever more elaborate costumes ensuring carnival was not only back but better than ever.
Floats, fireworks, street bands, masquerades, choirs, quartets… and the specially costumed Carnival Queen and King Momo, will be keeping up the tempo for all to enjoy over the eight days.
The evening grand parade from the Plaza de la Constitucíon starts off the celebration, which ends on February 10th with the ‘entierro del boqueron’ - funeral of the anchovy, symbolising the burial of fun times in readiness for the prayer and fasting of Lent.
During the carnival, groups of ‘chirigotas’ sing songs lampooning prominent people and politicians and as you might expect of a pre Lent celebration, there is plenty of eating and drinking. So why not join the party if you’re out on the Costa?
