Pool bragging rights to dad
The second CLC World Willie Thorne pool championship was a keenly fought contest ending with bragging rights over breakfast for Londoner Jim Barker, who was victorious in the deciding frame over son Mark!
Mark had cheerfully said before the final that if he didn’t win it then he didn’t want his dad to! Jim took the early lead in the best of five before the game see-sawed to 2-1 to Jim, with Mark using clever play to haul himself back to 2-2. But it was to be Jim’s night as he took the final frame.
Jim and his wife were holidaying at Club La Costa World on the Costa del Sol, together with Mark, his wife and children and during play Willie laughingly spotted that the family was torn over who to applaud!
The evening had kicked off with the semi-finals. Despite lively support from the Welsh section of the crowd Andy Easton, from South Wales, couldn’t rack up enough pots and went down 3-0 to Jim.
Nineteen year old Tom Hackett from Portsmouth, holidaying with his mum, dad and sister, said he was an occasional pub player who had fluked his way into the finals. He showed some great potting skills but went down 3-1 to Mark.
All the players received gifts for taking part, with Jim proudly showing off the winner’s trophy.
