Dancing into the World Cup championships!
Holly Thompson, whose parents have been members of CLC World for many years, is taking View Pointe Dance Company out to Portugal in June to compete in the Dance World Cup Finals, representing their country.
The dancers all qualified to represent Team England via video auditions in 2013, for which 18-year-old Holly choreographed 4 pieces. They subsequently formed their own dance company and began the uphill task of fund raising to go to the competition – which has involved 18,000 competitors from 32 countries.
“Theirs has been an incredible achievement,” said Mrs Barbara Thompson, “the other girls in the company are 13 to 16 years of age and include Holly’s sister Katie. Holly is a passionate dancer and became aware of the Dance World Cup when it was hosted in Brighton last year.”
Fares and accommodation for the party of 14 going to the finals, which are being held in Lagoa from June 29th to July 6th, amount to £9000, and the girls have raised approximately two-thirds so far with CLC World stepping in to sponsor tracksuits.
Naturally, all are extremely excited and looking forward to competing, said Mrs Thompson “and we are very grateful to CLC World and the various local businesses that have donated”. The girls have also put on a show, Countdown, and a band night at a local club was organised to raise funds.
Holly, a member of the English National Ballet Youth Dance Company, is currently taking A-level examinations in Dance, Drama and Media, and in September starts a degree course in Contemporary Dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Dance & Music in London.
CLC World wishes both Holly and View Pointe Dance Company a wonderful time at the Dance World Cup competition finals.
