The world of golf… and CLC World
CLC World Vacation Club Member, Thomas Bjørn, is the most successful Danish golfer ever to have played the professional game. His worldwide career successes have included no fewer than fifteen tournament wins on the European Tour and, in 1999, an excellent season-long performance saw him qualify for a place in the European Ryder Cup team – a first for Denmark.
At the 2014 Augusta Masters, which finished last weekend, Thomas shot an excellent second round score of 68 which, at the end of Day 2, placed him as a serious contender to win the prestigious ‘major’ tournament. However, as the pressure built to a climax on Days 3 and 4, his scores rose along with the Augusta temperatures and he eventually fell off the leader-board to finish with a very creditable – and, no doubt, equally lucrative – T8 position, where he was joined by two other European Ryder Cup heroes, Germany’s Bernhard Langer and Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland.
Thomas is clearly revelling in the current golf season, and his tournament performances across the world look like earning him another coveted place in the European team for the 2014 Ryder Cup, which this year will be played on the glorious Gleneagles course in Perthshire, Scotland.
Gleneagles has not hosted the most eagerly-anticipated show in world golf since 1973, and the golfing fraternity in Scotland – the traditional home of golf – is working flat out to ensure the tournament is the most successful yet.
CLC World will be proud to play its own part in this little piece of sporting history as, just a couple of well-hit drives away from all the action at Gleneagles, the company’s luxurious Duchally Country Estate resort and hotel has been recognised by the 2014 Ryder Cup organisers as an official ‘Participating Hotel’. Staff and management at Duchally are looking forward to extending their usual high levels of Highlands hospitality when the hotel opens its doors in September to welcome an array of special Ryder Cup-related guests.
