Fuengirola’s ‘Cazuela de la Abuela’ initiative exceeds all expectations
While enjoying her participation in the recent ‘Cazuela de la Abuela’ promotion in Fuengirola, Sinikka Haavisto from Finland could hardly have imagined that her gastronomic adventure would also bring her a week’s holiday at one of CLC World’s Spanish resorts – but that’s exactly what happened!
The company – one of the main sponsors of the event – was represented at the recent prize-giving ceremony in Fuengirola Town Hall by José Luis Mella (Executive Manager, Resorts Management) and, together with the Mayor of Fuengirola Esperanza Oña, he presented Sinikka with a certificate for 7 nights’ holiday accommodation for six people at a CLC World resort in Spain or Tenerife.
Head of Fuengirola Tourism, Ignacio Souvirón, thanked CLC World and all of the other sponsors for supporting the 3rd annual running of the increasingly popular event, which this year proved to be even more successful than anticipated. In just 16 days, the 73 participating bars and restaurants served up more than 25,000 portions of ‘cazuela’ – traditional stews and casseroles – while 30,000 passports were issued to eager gastronomes who toured the route through town to taste the tempting tapas-style treats.
Based on votes received from those very satisfied customers, this year’s winning restaurant was El Pasillo de Jesús, with 294 votes, closely followed in second place by the Taberna Chinorros and the Restaurante Solymar in third.
“This year,” said the Mayor, “5,000 more cazuelas were sold and many more restaurants participated than in previous years. That’s what we look for in initiatives like this – commercial success and wide appeal, with sensible prices that will attract everyone.”
