Canary Islands tourism enjoys record year in 2013
Tourist authorities from the Canary Islands attending the FITUR Tourism Fair in Madrid have released the latest figures indicating that the ever-popular islands broke their own record for the number of visits by foreign tourists last year.
Impressive numbers show that some 10.6 million foreign visitors travelled to the islands for a holiday in 2013 – an increase of 400,000 more than the previous best year in 2011 – and tourism chiefs are hoping the welcome news will help to attract yet more holidaymakers in the year ahead.
In each of the months of March, October, November and December, the ‘1 million tourists’ barrier was broken – an all-time first – while in December, 1 in every 3 foreigners who came to Spain stayed in the Canaries.
