Disney World® – developments to watch out for in 2014
The magical Walt Disney Corporation® seldom fails to excite and impress visitors with its annual innovations, so it should come as no surprise that 2014 promises to be a bumper year for new attractions and events across its Orlando theme parks – and beyond!
If you and your family are heading to CLC World’s Encantada or Regal Oaks resorts in Florida this year, keep an eye out for some great rollouts, including…
A highly-anticipated new roller coaster attraction – The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – is due to open in the spring as part of the extensive development at Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom. Similar to the popular Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will travel over and under ground, giving guests a first-hand glimpse of the dwarfs hard at work in the jewel mine.
Also new to Fantasyland this spring will be the Festival of Fantasy parade, an exciting cavalcade featuring characters from Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and Pinocchio, alongside some relative newcomers from Tangled and Brave. Disney’s two other carnival classics will carry on as normal.
Two characters from the smash-hit film ‘Frozen’ - Anna and Elsa – are to be officially recognised as Disney Princesses. Anna and her elder sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, will become the 12th and 13th princesses to join the popular group.
While all the new developments are ongoing, Walt Disney World will still be showcasing the popular annual events and festivals that you look forward to enjoying on your Orlando holiday. Going ahead as usual will be the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, the International Food and Wine Festival, the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend and Star Wars weekends. All event dates are available at www.disney.com
And away from the theme parks, this summer sees the exciting release of a major new Disney movie, ‘Maleficent’. The central role of Maleficent – the evil witch queen from the animated classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ – will be played by none other than Angelina Jolie (see main photo), who will portray one of Disney’s most iconic villains in the hitherto untold tale. The movie will also be featured in the new Festival of Fantasy parade, in the shape of a giant dragon!
