Kusadasi International Golf Course overlooking the Aegean Sea

Frederik HanssonClub La Costa World’s new Kusadasi Golf & Spa resort in Turkey has been welcoming guests since its opening in May. Here we look behind the scenes at the adjoining Kusadasi International Golf Course with new General Manager Fredrik Hansson.

CLC World: How is the golf course shaping up?

Fredrik: Steady progress has been made in the construction which saw the opening of the first nine holes on time in May. The fairways were heavily seeded and the greens all in place, although some unexpectedly heavy winter rains caused some problems on the back nine holes, which should be opening in September.

CLC World: What is your golfing background?

Fredrik: I am a Swedish PGA Golf Professional and I have lived and worked here in Turkey for almost 15 years. My wife, Banu, is Turkish and we have two lovely daughters, Lara and Vera. I have been involved at several golf clubs in Belek, Antalya and I came to Kusadasi from Istanbul where I was Director of Golf at Kemer Golf & Country Club. I speak 5 languages – Swedish, English, German, Turkish and a bit of French as well – but I need practice, which I am sure I will get plenty of!

CLC World: How are the golf teaching facilities at Kusadasi?

Fredrik: We have a programme in place offering tuition to all ages and levels of players wanting to learn more and improve their golf. I am also giving some tuition myself! There’s a wonderful driving range with views down to the sea and a first-class short game practice area, including a lovely putting green. We offer both individual lessons and group packages to suit everyone’s requirements and with prices to suit their holiday budgets!

CLC World: Can you give us an insight as to how the course will play?

Fredrik: The course has been designed to offer players a real challenge along with fantastic scenery to enjoy while pausing between shots. It has a very interesting layout that will bring out the best skills of every golfer and they will be tested to use a range of many different shots to get the ball into the hole! Buggies will be compulsory as the course has plenty of undulations and would be uncomfortable to walk, especially in the Turkish sunshine!

CLC World: What can you tell us about the Clubhouse?

Fredrik: The Clubhouse is located in a stunning place with breathtaking views over the golf course and the Aegean Sea. It will offer every kind of service expected from a five star golf club – including a pro shop – and will be a fantastic place to spend some time with friends whether it is before or after your round or even just as a place to chill out in general.
