A Champagne Toast to the Tenerife Coast

Once considered just a winter sun destination, the Canaries’ most popular island is fast becoming the location of choice for its champagne lifestyle and beer priced-properties.

Reasonable property prices, a Californian-style climate, good amenities, and an almost constant 25°C are just some of the factors tempting UK buyers

Just minutes from the bustle of Tenerife’s south coast, would-be homeowners and a new millionaire jet set seem to have found their perfect place in the sun.

Famous for its spectacular scenery, beaches and a temperamental volcano, Tenerife has always appealed to families looking for value holidays, but the island’s perfect year-round temperatures and 4 hour flying time from the UK is now tempting a different type of visitor. Brits dreaming of escaping the British weather can’t seem to get enough of the island that has something for everyone.

While other property markets have “”come and gone””, Tenerife’s has remained steady and solid over the years. In fact many would-be homeowners keen for a slice of the good life are surprised by its home prices, which are some 30 per cent lower than in other parts of Spain.

Club La Costa’s freehold division, CLC Estates, recently opened a new office in Golf del Sur, a golfing eden near the charming fishing village of La Caleta, where CLC already owns a number of resorts including its premiere holiday resort, Monterey Royale. Such was the demand for holiday homes in the area that CLC Estates chose the location as their Canary Islands base and the new office will focus on personal service and tailor-made property searches to come up with the best choice of properties for a client’s budget- whether it’s an onsite, interior-designed apartment complete with all the luxuries of resort living at CLC’s brand new California Golf Resort, or an 8 bedroom villa in the hills with a swimming pool larger than the ones you’ll find at most hotels.

Paul Smith, Director of CLC Estates, explains, “”2008 has been a really busy year for Club La Costa so far, expanding our brand throughout Europe. Although the Costa del Sol is still a favourite, many British buyers are looking at Tenerife again and for good reason.””

He continues, “”Reasonable property prices, a Californian-style climate, good amenities, and the freedom of an outdoor lifestyle thanks to an almost constant 25°C – which is fantastic for children – are just some of the factors tempting UK buyers. And although our developments in Golf del Sur are ideally located for golfers, it’s the security and comfort of owning on a resort that appeals to families.””

A one bedroom flat in the Golf del Sur area starts at around £120,000 while the average four-bed villa in the hills at Torviscas Alto, on the outskirts of Playa de las Americas, might cost around £600,000 upwards. The icing on the cake ? or rather on the top of the hill ? is a palatial home that has just been listed for £4.1m, which local estate agents believe is a record-breaking price tag for the island.

Finding somewhere to moor your yacht isn’t a problem for the millionaire set either. Stroll down to the marina at Puerto Colon, where yachts of all sizes from small to huge – like Russian dolls – bask in the midday sun, and it’s easy to see why Tenerife is the island of choice for sunseekers looking for a well-priced investment that’s easy to get to.

Even celebrities are crossing the Atlantic to sample some of the lifestyle that the Canaries have to offer. Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and other half Marc Anthony have stayed at a new five star hotel with luxury garden villas and spa while one area along the famous Costa Adeje ? Fañabe Beach ? has already been dubbed “”The Mayfair of Tenerife.””

Analysts believe Tenerife is under priced compared to the rest of Spain, and will continue to attract homeowners planning their long term future.

“”What’s so appealing about this island,”” adds Paul Smith, “”is that not only are you buying the lifestyle ? whether your scene is the local nightclub or the golf club terrace ? you are also buying a home that even in today’s global market is extremely good value. There are some exceptional developments, as well as bargains, to be found here. The secret is knowing exactly where to look.””
